Hayley Hutchings graduated with a first-class degree in Biomedical Sciences at Cardiff Metropolitan University and a PhD in Physiology from Cardiff University, where she was based in the Common Cold and Nasal Research Centre on a Proctor and Gamble studentship. 

Hayley Hutchings worked at Swansea University for 30 years and before retiring from academia she held the position of Professor of Health Services Research and Director of Swansea Trials Unit.

During her academic career, Hayley’s focus was mainly on research specialising in health services research and clinical trials. Her research interests included patient reported outcome measures, paediatric research, chronic conditions research and the use of linked anonymised data. She has published over 170 research publications to date. 

As well as her research portfolio Hayley contributed to institutional REF activities, peer review activities, and postgraduate research supervision.
