Director of Digital Services

Jonny Sammut was appointed Director of Digital Services at Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust in September 2023 and is the Trust’s Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO). He leads the organisation’s digital, data, technology, cyber security and information governance agenda, supporting the transformation of urgent and emergency care services across Wales.

Prior to joining the Welsh Ambulance Service, Jonny was Chief of Digital & Innovation at North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust. He has more than two decades of experience in digital, data, technology and transformation across both the public and private sectors, including serving as Director of Business Intelligence at Health Management Ltd and holding senior roles with Capita plc and Aviva plc.

Jonny is a Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS), a FEDIP Leading Practitioner, Chair of the BCS Wales Hub and a graduate of the NHS Digital Academy at Imperial College London, where he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Health Leadership. In 2026, he was recognised in the CIO 100 UK for his leadership and contribution to digital transformation.

Jonny is passionate about using digital, data and emerging technologies to improve patient care, colleague experience and organisational performance. He is particularly interested in responsible AI, automation, digital inclusion and building strong partnerships across health, technology and industry. His leadership approach focuses on challenging conventional thinking, creating the conditions for innovation and turning digital ambition into practical, sustainable change.
