Channel 5 News ride-out with volunteer Community Welfare Responders

14.02.25

CHANNEL 5 News spent the day with Community Welfare Responders recently to learn about how they are supporting the Welsh Ambulance Service to deliver the right care or advice, in the right place, every time.

These volunteers attend 999 calls in their community and take a set of observations from patients, including heart rate and oxygen levels, which help the Trust's control room clinicians decide the appropriate next steps.

That might be dispatching an ambulance, signposting the patient to their GP, self-care advice or something else.

Community Welfare Responders are helping the service to provide the safest care possible for patients, as well as reducing avoidable hospital admissions.
