Welsh Ambulance Service demonstrates commitment to environmental management standard

30.07.2025

The Welsh Ambulance Service has successfully retained its ISO 14001 accreditation for another year.

The accreditation reinforces the Trust’s ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impact and enhancing sustainability performance.

ISO 14001 is a globally recognised standard for environmental management systems and the Welsh Ambulance Service is the only ambulance service in the UK to hold this environmental accreditation.

It helps organisations effectively manage, monitor, and improve their environmental processes and responsibilities.

Leading the work has been Environmental and Sustainability Manager, Chris Davies, along with Environmental & Sustainability Officer Sharon Jones.

Chris said: “I’m delighted to confirm that, following thorough audits and interviews, the Welsh Ambulance Service has retained ISO 14001 certification for 2025.

“This demonstrates that our environmental management systems remain aligned with the Trust’s strategic direction and continue to drive meaningful improvements in our environmental performance.

“This was a real team effort, and I’d like to extend my thanks to all the operations managers, locality managers and administrative staff who engaged with us during the audit process and helped to ensure environmental compliance at our stations.

The accreditation followed a detailed audit conducted in June, covering a range of stations and office locations across Wales.

Richard Davies, Assistant Director of Capital and Estates, praised the achievement, saying: “Retaining this accreditation and being the only ambulance service in the UK to hold it is a fantastic accomplishment.

“It reflects the hard work and dedication of the estates team, the operations directorate, and especially Chris and Sharon for leading the charge.

“A huge thanks to everyone who contributed, this is something we can all be proud of.”

Chris Turley, Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Resources, said: “Achieving reaccreditation is no small feat and it’s a clear sign of the progress we’re making towards our long-term sustainability goals.

“Congratulations to everyone involved on this fantastic achievement.”
