The Chair of the Welsh Ambulance Service has had his role extended for another four years.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care has confirmed that Colin Dennis, who has been in his post as Chair since October 2022, will continue in his role until September 2030.

Prior to joining the Welsh Ambulance Service, Colin had a distinguished career in the financial and aviation sectors and had gained a wealth of experience in non-executive roles in regulated sectors including the NHS, social housing and adult care and social services.

In his first four years as Chair, Colin has seen the service adapt and modernise to cope with demand and ensure that patients receive the best possible care.

During his tenure, Colin, along with the Trust Board, has overseen important changes to the way the service deals with 999 calls.

In July 2025, a new Purple category was introduced alongside the Red category for immediately life-threatening calls.

A few months later in December 2025, Orange, Yellow and Green categories were also introduced, meaning that there are now five categories of calls, all designed to ensure patients get the right care for their needs.

Colin said: “I am delighted that my role as Chair has been extended for another four years.

“When I first joined the organisation, I was acutely aware of the challenges facing the NHS in general, and of the ambulance service in particular.

“Those challenges remain but thanks to the hard work of my colleagues and innovations in how we deal with demand, I believe we are now starting to see real improvements to the services we offer the people of Wales.”
