A Professor of Nursing and Disaster Healthcare, Kevin was appointed Non-Executive Director for the Trust in January 2015. He is an Independent Trustee of St John Wales and President of Confédération Interalliée des Officers Médicaux de Réserve and has advised at government level on disaster healthcare, education and training in the UK, USA, Japan and Hong Kong where he was an Honorary Fellow at HK University.

Kevin trained as a nurse in Wales in the late 1970’s and subsequently worked in Accident and Emergency. He joined the Territorial Army in 1983. Following specialist Accident & Emergency Nursing training he joined the Regular Army. On completion of his time in the Regular Army he returned to Wales as a lecturer and re-joined the TA. 

He was appointed a Member of the Royal Red Cross 1st Class (Military List) in the Birthday Honours 1997 in recognition of Services to the Implementation Force in Bosnia during 1996.  He has held a number of command appointments. In addition he was an integral member of a Defence Engagement Mission to China in 2014.

He was the course director for a multi-professional, multi-national MSc in Disaster Healthcare for over 10 years and undertook a full spectrum of teaching and supervision roles across the Faculty at USW from undergraduate to PhD and was Chair of the Military Education Committee for the combined universities of Wales from 2006 to 2013.

 He is a qualified teacher and completed an MA in Sports Science 1994 and a PhD 2009. He was Queens Honorary Nurse 2009-2012, undertaking a range of Royal duties, appointed Professor in August of 2010 and appointed MBE (Civil List) in the Birthday Honours List 2012. In 2014 he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant South Glamorgan.

In addition in 2013 he became a voluntary medical advisor to the HALO Trust and has deployed to the Ivory Coast, Laos, Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.

He undertakes a number of consultancy roles within industry as well as being a Patron of the young people’s charity the Motivation and Learning Trust. He is an ambassador for cancer charity Prostate Cymru delivering men’s health and awareness sessions, Chair ABF The Soldiers Charity (Glamorgan Fund) and served as Chair RFCA Wales and member Council RFCA May 2014 to December 2016.
