Robert Holloway
Rob was in attendance at a cardiac arrest in a public area where a distressed and upset family member arrived at the scene. Rob showed fantastic empathy and care for the family members taking care to explain what was going on, what was likely to happen and how they wanted to be involved in the decision-making/planning. Rob finished late because he was ensuring they were fully informed and had plans in place with other family and friends to support them in such a difficult time.
Gareth Long
A great guy, an excellent paramedic and a genuine loving person who will sorely be missed not just by the ambulance service but by all the staff/colleagues at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.
Claire Britain
Since I joined WAST almost ten years ago Claire has been a highly valued member of the team, but, like a lot of admins, she gets taken for granted and is often overlooked. Claire is very helpful, focused, approachable, and always willing to help no matter what, whilst being a pleasant and charming person.
Melissa Harris
Melissa is a kind and caring person and always likes to help people. Melissa deserves some recognition for the job she does. She has worked hard over the last couple of months in her role which she only started back in January 2023. I’m very proud of her she has gone above and beyond. Melissa has undergone some challenging calls but always managed to overcome them and do her absolute best going above and beyond for everyone and making sure they are getting the help they need she even does this in her everyday life.
Kevin Thomas
Kev must be the only person at Morriston A&E who goes above and beyond to help and assist ambulance crews outside A&E. He is the happiest kindest person on the planet, he knows each crew member by name. Emergency Medical Service crews can't speak more highly of him. He has worked in the department for over 22 years, and he is a credit to the hospital. He will always answer any questions crews have. No job is too big or small for Kev.
Hannah Matthews,
On 21 April 2021, I had a serious accident in Morriston. I was taken to the Heath Polytrauma Unit. After nine days I was transferred to Morriston, and after about a month I was transferred to Gorseinon. It was found I had an infection and had to go back to Morriston. An ambulance was arranged, and I was picked up early hours of the morning. I have to be honest and say I was very worried about the infection in case I would lose my leg. I suffer from depression and my mood was pretty low. Hannah was looking after me in the ambulance and although it was probably only a 20-minute journey we were able to have a good chat and a laugh which helped me no end. Thankfully, after another three operations, I was allowed home in August after four months in various hospitals. Hannah was excellent, another NHS professional. Thank you.
