All Wales

David Tanner

David has been fundraising for years and is well known for this reason by staff and management in the area. He does multiple fundraising events for charities and individuals. I would like to nominate him for the people's choice because he's never had the recognition for all the hard work he does. He has changed loads of people's lives and influences colleagues to do better.  He's a true credit to WAST.

Claire Brittain

Claire goes above and beyond to support the staff in the Locality. Nothing is ever a problem. She not only provides admin support but is a vital part of the locality team with a wealth of knowledge of all areas and as a past TRIM practitioner is often the go to for staff who just want to offload. An example of the commitment from this amazing woman is that following a period of ill health last year, she got a laptop from the Trust to allow her to continue her duties. I not only submit this nomination for the support she offers me, but for the support she gives to everyone in the workplace.

Nick Ozzati

Nick was the Community First Responder who was called to my grandson at the roadside when he was going in and out of consciousness on the way to Glangwili. He recognised the seriousness of the situation and notified a passing police car of the urgency and got him to Noahs Ark Hospital to save my grandsons life. Nick then came to my house to explain things, bringing the keys for my daughter’s car, which had been left at the side of the road. His empathy and understanding of our feelings and what we were going through was excellent. Later in the week he came in his own time to see Jack. We have kept in contact with Nick and keep him up to date on Jack’s progress, and I cannot get over how much he genuinely cares.

Claire Temple

Throughout my career, from Paramedic to Locality Manager, Claire has been one of the unsung heroes, who humbly supports all of our staff in North and Central Aneurin Bevan area. Since becoming an LM in 2020, I can wholeheartedly say that my role would be near impossible without Claires knowledge, skills, organisation, and care. As a management team, we call on Claire endlessly to resolve issues, answer questions and to simply be our sounding board. She isn't afraid to give me my 'homework' to keep me on track with many tasks and will prompt me if needed. Equally, many more find their way to her office just for a venting chat and to receive impartial wise words.

Gareth Parry

Although Gareth is currently covering the Operations Managers role, he was the first Operations Assistant in the volunteer team and completely transformed the team. Gareth made the role what it is today, worked hard to retain current Community First Responders and well as recruit new ones. He trained the other Operations Assistants across Wales so there was an inclusive Pan Wales approach. He is always happy, caring and a great listener. He will stand up for the volunteers and had worked hard to ensure the CFRs and now VCS are included as part of Team WAST.

Renal Hub Coordinators

Over the past 36 months The Hub has operated under-establishment. Some have worked longer hours to make sure this has not impacted on our Service Delivery for our People Living with Kidney Disease transport. The Hub, apart from two staff are all fairly new, all learning new skills and working together as a team, always working to improve PLWKD transport. The Hub will soon be visiting the dialysis units throughout Wales again. PLWKD like the interaction from the visits, strengthening relationships with both PLWKD and Unit Staff.

Owen Morgan

Owen has been great at training me and other CFRs. He has really inspired me to go further in the Emergency Medical Service industry and has made me consider becoming a paramedic myself. He always goes above and beyond with his training and would stay behind as long as needed until everyone was happy with the skills that have been taught by him. No question was ever a silly question with Owen, and he felt like he had all the time in the world to help you. Owen has now gone on to the Cymru High Acuity Response team at the mouth of the valley with WAST, but I feel he needs to be recognised for his amazing contribution to the CFR training team, during his time with them.
