Keep you and your loved ones safe by following these water safety tips:
- Do not be tempted to take a dip in reservoirs, canals, lakes and rivers to cool down. There are hidden dangers lurking beneath the surface such as debris and underwater currents which could result in injury or drowning.
- Children should always be supervised when they are in or around water and make sure they are swimming within designated areas.
- Act responsibly if you are swimming or visiting the beach. Do not run, push or jump on others to avoid injury or harm. If you see someone in difficulty, tell a lifeguard or call 999 immediately.
- Always wear a lifejacket if you are out on the water.
If you get into difficulty in the water, the RNLI says: "Float to Live." Lean back, keep calm, and gently move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat while your breathing settles. Share this important lifesaving skill with friends and family - it could help save a life. Visit the RNLI website for more information, including their full Float to Live advice, Cold Water Shock, Beach safety and more.
